There are a few differences between a traditional and infrared sauna. The most obvious difference is a traditional sauna offers high heat where you pour water over the rocks to create a high humidity experience. An infrared sauna uses panels to create a deep body penetrating heat from the inside out.

Caring for Your Equipment
Mainely Tubs has a team of over 25 Service Technicians on the road each day across New England dedicated to helping maintain your Hot Tub, Swim Spa, Sauna, or Cold Plunge so that you can continue to enjoy your wellness product for many years to come.
Hot tub and sauna maintenance differs depending on the model you purchased.
- For hot tubs, a complimentary white glove visit from one of our Service Technicians will guide you, and your hot tub comes with a chemical bucket and instruction sheet explaining how to balance your water and perform regular care.
- Saunas tend to require lower ongoing care and maintenance—typically limited to occasionally cleaning the stones in the heater for traditional or dual heat models and wiping down benches regularly.
The frequency for changing out your water and filters depends on how much use your hot tub gets. Typically, we recommend rotating your filters once per week (for those hot tubs with more than one filter) and cleaning them once per month.
- For saltwater tubs, we recommend replacing the water twice per year.
- For chlorine-based tubs, we recommend replacing the water three times per year.
- Sign up for one of our water care valet programs and we’ll do all of the draining, filling, and maintenance work for you!
The exact cost can fluctuate, but Mainely Tubs sells the most energy efficient hot tubs and swim spas on the market.
Yes, we sell replacement parts, covers and steps, and Watkins guarantees availability for most spa parts for 20 years.
- You can purchase chemicals and filters in one of our 7 New England showrooms or online at estore.mainelytubs.com.
- Our Service Team can help with replacement parts, steps, and covers over the phone as well.
Mainely Tubs does not deliver water or offer a water testing service. We do however have a variety of water care valet plans, where we can take care of your spa water for you.
The winterization process usually requires:
- Unplugging your hot tub or swim spa
- Draining it and flushing any excess water out of the pipes or valves.
- Using a spa vac to pull out any remaining water and/or using compressed air to blow out all the water.
- Cleaning the filters thoroughly
- Making sure the pipes are safe for the winter
- Making sure everything is completely dry before covering for the winter
We recommend having one of our Service Technicians perform the winterization for your hot tub or swim spa so you can be sure it’s done correctly and will be ready to use after the winter is over!
Saunas tend to require lower ongoing care and maintenance—typically limited to occasionally cleaning the stones in the heater for traditional or dual heat models. You may also want to wipe down benches after every few uses.
We’ve found that most customers would rather be using their hot tubs or swim spas than maintaining them. That’s why Mainely Tubs offers a variety of Water Care valet solutions—to keep your hot tub or swim spa operating at peak performance with crystal clear water. We offer weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly plans, available year-long or seasonally.
Mainely Tubs has a Service Call Center and we strive to answer 90% of inbound calls within the same day, and respond to all messages within 24 business hours. We work to send out a technician within 10 days for all non-emergency service.
